A Series Of lectures That Coincide with the Exhibition

Milan, 02 October 2008. The exhibition ‘Revealed Wefts’, on view at the Moshe Tabibnia Gallery until 18th October 2008, showcases a selection of sixteenth and seventeenth-century carpets, ideally drawing a parallel with the exhibition path of the exhibit ‘Il Frammento Ritrovato. Il Tappeto di Caccia e Altre Storie’ showing at the Poldi Pezzoli museum, Milan. The latest edition of the catalogue illustrating the Poldi Pezzoli Museum’s collection of antique textiles has been published by Umberto Allemandi thanks to Moshe Tabinia’s sponsorship.

In concomitance with the exhibition ‘Revealed Wefts’, a lecture series will be held at the Gallery from 14 to 16 October 2008, mirroring Moshe Tabibnia Gallery’s commitment to learning activities. Renowned scholars, including GIANLUCA POLDI, GIULIA MARITI AND ANNALISA ZANNI, are the guest speakers who will shed light on different aspects related to investigative, preventive and remedial conservation of antique textiles.

Revealed Wefts

Drawing a parallel with the ‘The Rediscovered Fragment’ exhibition showing at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum, (Milan, 22 May – 12 October 2008), Moshe Tabibnia decided to run a complementary exhibition entitled ‘Revealed Wefts’ (Milan, 22 May – 18 October 2008), and to put on display a number of sixteenth and seventeenth-century carpets bearing some analogy, in terms of manufacture and dating, with the exemplars on view at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum. The aim of the curators of the exhibit held at the Moshe Tabibnia Gallery is to shed light on carpet manufactures in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries through the systematic display of nearly twenty historic carpets from different geographical areas, mainly Turkey, Persia, Egypt, India and China. The exhibition title, ‘Revealed Wefts’, alludes to the unveiling of the connections between different carpet manufactures in the past epochs, and yet to the disclosure of the progresses made in the realization of the MATAM project.

Gala Dinner at Palazzo Marino, Milan: Antique Carpets on View

A gala dinner will be held at Palazzo Marino, Milan, after La Scala’s premiere opening the 2007–2008 theatrical season. Being the venue of the aforementioned evening’s gala, the palace’s courtyard of honour has been sumptuously arranged for the occasion. Moshe Tabibnia has contributed to the initiative putting on display twelve sixteenth and seventeenth-century carpets of his collection, which have been hung from the courtyard’s balconies in a design to bring back the glow of the past magnificence into this Mannerist setting. Amongst the amazing exemplars shown, worthy of mention is the Ushak star carpet as well as the Ushak medallion carpet, the ‘Lotto’, the ‘Holbein’, a rug with compartments, an Isfahan carpet, a dragon carpet and the famous Karapinar carpet rediscovered in 2002.
