Giovanni Curatola, Professor of Archaeology and History of Islamic Art at the University of Udine, Italy, will introduce and discuss Jon Thompson’s ‘Milestones in the History of Carpets’. The book presentation will be held at the Moshe Tabibnia Gallery on 23 February 2007, at 06:00 p.m. The aforementioned volume was published in conjunction with the homonym exhibition held at the Moshe Tabibnia Gallery (Milan, 14 October - 11 November 2006). Milestones in the History of Carpets truly belongs to the sphere of art publishing: this finely bound, large size book with amazing colour illustrations stands out for the rich iconographic apparatus integrating the in-depth study of the works presented by the author, Jon Thompson, one of the foremost scholars in the field of oriental arts. However, this volume not only is the catalogue that accompanied a unique exhibition: it is a publication destined to occupy a privileged position in the collectors, connoisseurs and scholars’ libraries, and thus to become a ‘milestone’ in the fascinating literature on historic textiles.
