Between the Sea and the Desert: the Many Cultures of North Africa
Textile Museum's collection of textile artefacts from North Africa is shown to the public for the first time in this exhibition. In the area known as Maghreb (spanning Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco), which is populated by nomadic tribes, farmers and people living near the major trading ports, textile tradition is characterized by great variety: precious silk fabrics and embroideries, carpets with unique designs and bright colours, and lastly costumes and shawls of sheer beauty.
