International Medieval Congress
Since its start in 1994, the International Medieval Congress has established itself as an annual event taking place in Leeds with the attendance of medievalists from all over the world.
A number of topics arising out of sessions and roundtables will be discussed by internationally renowned scholars with in-depth knowledge in different fields, from anthropology to history of art. Also included in the thematic strands are research and studies on applied arts, especially antique textile arts. This year, major attention will be drawn on the Bayeux Tapestry: the dyes and dyeing techniques used to tinge the tapestry's yarn will be investigated, and new light will be shed on the historical and cultural meanings of the animal and plants depicted in this famous textile artefact.
