The volume illustrates the latest study on antique Chinese textile art, dedicated to some of the most important specimens of period Chinese carpets and textiles. These came from China and the Tarim Basin, first stop going West of the Silk Road. The focus is also on the influence of Chinese culture on Western society from 16th to late 18th century.

The book includes a scientific study on antique Chinese dyes that explains the topic of the colour variations from red to yellow.
