Gli arazzi Dei Gonzaga Nel Rinascimento. Da Mantegna a Raffaello e Giulio Romano
The exhibition, curated by Guy Delmarcel and Nello Forti Grazzini, presents the tapestries of the Gonzaga family, among the first big collectors of these artefacts.
The 34 textile works on display at Palazzo Te date back to the Renaissance period, specifically to the time of the three children of Isabella d’Este and Francesco II Gonzaga, namely Federico II (1500-1540), Ercole (1505-1563) and Ferrante (1507-1557).
The majority of tapestries from ancient collections were created by Flemish artists based on the design of masters such as Mantegna, Raffaello and Giulio Romano and portray rural, biblical and profane settings.
