Very Sanderson: 150 Years of English Decoration
The exhibition, organized by the Fashion and Textile Museum of London, pays homage to Sanderson, an emblem of English interior decoration. The Sanderson company, founded 150 years ago, is synonymous with upholstery and textiles whose decorative motifs have become famous and are recognised all over the world.
This event is a journey which reveals the birth of modern design and the related industry, encompassing the beginning of the production of English chintz, the opening of the first modern English showrooms equipped with movable mechanisms for the display of upholstery, the creation of ‘fashion’ textiles accessible to the English ‘miiddle class’ reminiscent of artefacts produced in France for the international élite.
