MUDEC is delighted to present the exhibition curated by the association Cultural Paths in its Spazio delle Culture area. Showing a refined selection of valuable Indonesian batiks, mostly from private collections, it sets out to tell the time-honored story of these precious fabrics, a tribute to Eastern culture and artisanal craftsmanship.
Presenting refined textiles, patterns and motifs, the exhibition not only explores the history and culture of this ancient Indonesian craft, but also focuses specifically on the sophisticated batiks produced during the Art Nouveau period. In particular it highlights the various cultural and artistic currents that linked Europe and a number of Asian countries, especially the island of Java, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This was the period of the rise of Art Nouveau, an international artistic movement that sparked new trends in many fields. Visitors will be able to observe how these different cultures interacted and influenced one another, from a global perspective, and witness the connections between East and West that led to the creation of these prestigious artefactsDal batik all'Art Nouveau.
