BIENNIAL EXHIBITION OF FIBER ART - Spoleto#Conoscere

Saturday December 8, 2018 sees the opening of the first Biennial Exhibition of Fiber Art, conceived and staged by Officina d'Arte & Tessuti and curated by M. Giuseppina Caldarola and Margherita Labbe.

The exhibition sets out not only to present a significant overview of the world of Fiber Art today, but also to explore the various areas of research in the field.

The event is being held in three venues: Palazzo Collicola, Museo del Costume e del Tessuto and the Officina d'Arte & Tessuti gallery.

Palazzo Collicola is hosting an exhibition of various textile artists (including Jennifer Balsamo, Eva Basile, Silvia Beccaria, Paola Bitelli, Nedda Bonini, Nicoletta Braga, Loretta Cappanera, Alessandro D’Isanto, Vittorio Fava, Cristina Mariani, Lydia Predominato, Virginia Ryan, Grazia Santi and Laura Scaringi), as well as the project Rizomatica, which focuses on the complex, indeterminate nature of postmodern culture, and a focus on the Republic of Lithuania, with the works of three internationally established artists (Egle Ganda Bogdaniene, Severija Inčirauskaitė Kriaunevičienė and Laima Oržekauskienė).

The Museo del Costume e del Tessuto examines the world of research from various different points of view: the research carried out in the Academies, and the silent, almost hidden work pursued in the many public and private initiatives which are held. This topic is explored in particular in the project Ritagli d’Arte. Nuove declinazioni del riuso.(The Art of Scraps. New directions in reuse). Thanks to a partnership with the Galassia company in Perugia - a manufacturer of cashmere knitwear and high-end yarns - artists, teachers and students have turned the waste from industrial processes into art: waste normally destined for landfill or at the most low quality by-products.

Lastly, the Officina d'Arte & Tessuti gallery is set to host exhibitions of video art and concerts.
