Luigi XIV - carpets
Commissioned by the Sun King in the seventeenth century to cover the floor connecting the Louvre to the Tuileries Palace, a selection of these carpets is, for the first time, reunited and presented to the public in the spaces of the Grand Palais.

At the beginning of Louis XIV’s reign, when the Louvre was intended to become the sovereign’s official residence before Versailles assumed a central role, one of the greatest decorative projects of seventeenth-century France was conceived. A significant portion of the monumental carpets created for the Grande Galerie of the Louvre is now brought together at the Grand Palais in Paris in the exhibition The Hidden Treasures of the Sun King—on view only until 8 February 2026.
