Central Asian Ikats from the Rau Collection
Central Asian ikats (textiles made with the ikat technique, a complex sequence of tie-dyeing silk threads before weaving to create elaborate patterns in striking colours), which were mainly produced in Samarkand and Bukhara in the nineteenth century, will be showcased in this temporary exhibition ending on 30 March 2008.

The ikat robes and hangings displayed come from the collection of Pip Rau, a renowned expert of jewels and textiles from Afghanistan. On 18 March 2008, a lecture was also held to shed light on the V&A's collection of ikats from India, Indonesia and Japan.
