This exhibition honours the textile production for which the city of Moulhouse became famous in the XIX century.
Indeed, Indian printed cottons had seduced the western world since they were first imported, in the second half of the XVII century, but their production in Europe started only later.
Through this fascinating display, new light is shed on the history of textiles, from the early printed fabrics imported from India to the later ones produced in France.
Showcased as exemplars of the former are printed cottons with different designs suiting the prevailing taste in various markets.
Also on display is an outstanding artefact belonging to the museum: the wall hanging known as "Tapis Moghol".
