The exhibition brings together a large volume of handiworks which illustrate the art of embroidery, a technique which dates back to more than 3,000 years ago and probably originated in China during the Shang dynasty.
In 1770, Charles Germain de Saint Aubin published "L'Art du Brodeur" in which he analysed embroidery and its history and connected it to the creation of luxury and acknowledged how fundamental the sense of vanity was for its development.
Preciously embroidered clothes and textiles on display at Kent University Museum come from all over the world (Europe, Asia, America) and from all periods, starting from the eighteenth century and continuing to the golden era of great contemporary couturiers.
