Comunicato Stampa
14/11/2007
In concomitance with the ‘Deities, Monkeys and Zodiac Signs’ exhibition showing at the Moshe Tabibnia Gallery (8-30 November 2007), a lecture series has been planned. Renowned scholars will recount the history of the ‘Manufacture des Gobelins’ in the age of Louis XIV, the Roi Soleil, and shed light on the magnificence of the French court at the end of the seventeenth century and beginning of the eighteenth. Moreover, the future projects undertaken by the ‘Galerie des Gobelins’ will be presented. Last but not least, the iconography and fortune of the cycle of tapestries depicting the theme of the twelve months by les Gobelins, will be discussed. Particular attention will be drawn on Moshe Tabibnia’s cycle of tapestries known as ‘Les Deuze Mois Grotesques’ or ‘Mois Grotesques par bandes’, which is rare early version (1710-1730) of the Editio Princeps (1709) commissioned by Louis XIV, the Roi Soleil, for his son Louis, le Grand Dauphin.
