“Finely woven images bearing witness to the splendour of the Roi Soleil’s court: these words may define the artefacts by the Manufacture des Gobelins, the French tapestry factory celebrating its four hundredth anniversary this year and thus breaking into the international scene through a series of dedicated events. In Italy, the ‘rendez-vous’ will be at the Moshe Tabibnia Gallery, Milan, where the temporary exhibition entitled ‘Deities, Monkeys and Signs of the Zodiac’ will be showing from 8 to 30 November 2007. [...] The exhibit is also an opportunity to have a closer insight into the world of tapestries [...]. ‘Today, this kind of collecting is still undervalued. [...] In Italy, the demand is mainly oriented on the older pieces, those dating back to the fifteenth century and first half of the sixteenth century such as the Millefleurs tapestries characterized by densely floral-covered ground’ says Mr. Tabibnia. Also sought-after are the early verdure tapestries [...] and the eighteenth-century exquisitely woven tapestries by the French Beauvais and Gobelins tapestry factories [...].”
