Ottoman Art, 1450-1600. Nature and Abstraction: a gaze over the Sublime Porte

The Bruschettini Foundation presents an exhibition of selected representative objects of the Ottoman artistic production, with particular reference to the period 1450-1600.

The exhibition includes around 70 objects, some of which are already known to the academic world, while are others are little known and largely unpublished. Among these is a copy of the Quran dedicated to Mehmet II, bearing Suleyman the Magnificent's 'tughra' (imperial monogram), a loan of the Berlin Islamic Art Museum, as well as 15th and 16th century carpets, extraordinary examples of Iznik polychrome ceramics and of the Ottoman textile production: silks and velvets, gold and silver brocades. The exhibtion will also include a small, precious selection of defensive weaponry, with helmets and horse bridles bearing the emblem of Hagia Irene’s imperial armoury, reminiscent of the great power of Ottoman Turkey in that period.

The work on display mostly belongs to Italian and foreign private collections, and it will be supplemented by a prestigious selection of loans from museums that house some of the most important collections of Ottoman art outside Turkey.
